Round table: Art as a vector of identity and resilience
The role of art in the construction and preservation of Afro-Canadian identity.
Discuss how art helps celebrate, question, and transmit Afro-Canadian cultural heritage. If we start from the premise that the artist can be a privileged witness of his time, then art can become the mirror of the world that reflects our customs, traditions, social, political, and other realities. In African tradition, art has played a leading role in this, regardless of the medium chosen to reflect the moment. Art serves as a powerful medium through which individuals come to understand themselves, situate their experiences within a broader historical and cultural context, and draw upon the past to inform the present and construct a coherent sense of identity.
